The Effect of Problem-Based Learning Charged With Ethnomathematics of Cirebon District on Mathematical Understanding a) Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Kampus Sumedang, Jl. Mayor Abdurachman No. 211 Sumedang, 45621, West Java, Indonesia. Abstract The purpose of this research is to know how effect Problem-Based Learning approach charged with ethnomathematics of Cirebon District on mathematical understanding. The method used in this research is quasi-experimental method with nonequivalent control group design. The research population is all fourth grade students of Elementary School in Palimanan Subdistrict, Cirebon District. Sampling used is a sampling purposive. The selected samples of research are SDN 2 Palimanan Timur as experimental class, and SDN 1 Pegagan as control class. The instruments used are the test instrument of mathematical understanding, observation sheet of student activity and student response questionnaire. The result of research showed Problem-Based Learning approach charged with ethnomathematics of Cirebon District have positive effect on mathematical understanding. Problem-Based approach charged with ethnomathematics of Cirebon District is better than conventional learning to improve mathematical understanding. The new findings in this research from the results of questionnaire, students prefer modern culture better than local culture.
