Implementation of Explicit-Reflective Approach in Science Lessons to Improve Concept understanding and Identify Junior High School Understanding of the Nature of Science (NOS) Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Abstract This study aims to investigate the enhancement of the understanding of the concept and identification of understanding the nature of science of junior high school students through the implementation of reflective-explicit approach in science learning. The research design is the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Research subjects consisted of 23 students of class VIII one of Junior High School in Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi Province. Lesson material that became the object of this research is the material of vibration, wave and hearing system. Data collection using observation sheet, conceptualization test in the form of multiple choice of 30 items as well as the questionnaire of understanding of nature of science covering 7 aspects of the nature of science. Provision of tests and questionnaires is done at the beginning (pretest) and end of learning activities (posttest). Data analysis using percentage calculation, normalized gain calculation (N-gain), and t test. The result of the research shows that the application of reflective explicit approach can be done well, the improvement of conceptualization and the understanding of nature of sciencesiswa are on the medium criterion. The implementation of the reflective-explicit approach is significant in enhancing mastery of the concepts and understanding of the nature of science students. Keywords: explicit-reflective approach, science learning, concept undertanding, the nature of science. Topic: Integrated Science Education |
